What you gain with the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max
Much longer battery life. In GSMArena’s active-use test the Note 17 Pro Max lasted six and a half hours longer than the Note 15 Pro+. It’s the difference between charging nightly and charging every other day.
Faster storage. UFS 4.1 reads roughly twice as fast as the Note 15 Pro+’s UFS 2.2, so apps install and open quicker.
Newer software and extras. It launches a year later on HyperOS 3 and Android 16, and adds two eSIMs, Bluetooth 6.0 and a 4K selfie camera.
What you don’t gain is raw speed. GSMArena measured the two chips within about 3% of each other, and its reviewer put the change of focus down to rising memory and component costs across the industry this year.
What you keep with the Redmi Note 15 Pro+
The better camera. The 200MP main sensor is physically larger than the Note 17 Pro Max’s 50MP one. That means more detail, better cropping and cleaner shots in low light.
A lighter, slimmer phone. At 207.1g and 8.19mm it’s noticeably easier to carry.
€100 back in your pocket. At €395 it’s the best-value camera phone in the Redmi Note range. See the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G.
Redmi Note 17 Pro vs Redmi Note 15 Pro
The same trade runs one step down. The Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G (from €319) has a 200MP camera, the Dimensity 7400-Ultra, a 6,580mAh battery and 45W charging. The Redmi Note 17 Pro (€469 for 8GB+512GB) has a 27% bigger 8,340mAh battery and 67W charging, but a 50MP camera and 1080p video.
Pick the Note 17 Pro for battery life and storage; pick the Note 15 Pro for the camera and the lower price. See the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G.
Should you upgrade from a Redmi Note 15?
Probably not. If you own a Note 15 Pro or Pro+, the Note 17 range only beats it on battery life and storage speed, and you’d lose camera quality. Upgrade only if running out of charge is your main frustration.
From a Note 14 or older, it’s a different story. A Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has a 5,110mAh battery; the Note 17 Pro Max’s 9,210mAh is 80% more.
