Redmi Note 17 Pro vs Pro Max: specs side by side Leave a comment

Buy the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max unless you specifically want 512GB of storage for less. At mStore.ie the Pro Max (8GB+256GB) is €495 and the Pro (8GB+512GB) is €469. That €26 buys a faster chip, 4K video, 100W charging and about five extra hours of battery in GSMArena’s test.

The Pro Max is sold in 8GB+256GB and 8GB+512GB versions, both with UFS 4.1 storage.

What the Pro and Pro Max share

Both use the same 6.83″ 1.5K AMOLED screen at 120Hz, peaking at 3,500 nits, behind Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Both are SGS-certified to survive a 3m drop, run HyperOS 3 on Android 16, and include NFC and an infrared remote blaster.

They share the same limits too: an 8MP ultra-wide, no telephoto, no wireless charging and no charger in the box.

Where the Pro Max pulls ahead

Battery life. On paper the Pro Max has only 10% more capacity. In GSMArena’s active-use test it lasted 22h 31m against the Pro’s 17h 32m — about 28% longer — because the newer chip is more efficient. It also recharges faster at 100W.

Speed. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 with LPDDR5X memory and UFS 4.1 storage opens apps and installs updates noticeably faster. Neither phone is built for demanding games at maximum settings.

Camera and video. The Pro Max’s main sensor has larger pixels and a brighter f/1.5 lens, which helps on dim Irish evenings. It records 4K on both cameras, while the Pro stops at 1080p. If you film the kids, matches or holidays, this is the biggest real-world difference.

Connectivity. Two eSIMs let you keep your Irish number alongside a travel eSIM with no physical SIM swap. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 6.0 are newer standards than the Pro’s.

When the Redmi Note 17 Pro makes more sense

The case for the Pro is narrow but real. At mStore.ie it comes with 512GB for €469, so it’s the cheapest way into the range with that much storage. If you mostly message, browse and take photos rather than video, you won’t miss 4K. Weight isn’t a factor either way: 223g against 225.1g.

Budget for a charger

Neither phone includes a charger. Xiaomi recommends a 100W PD adapter (or its own 100W) for the Pro Max and a Xiaomi 67W or higher adapter for the Pro. A lower-powered USB-C PD charger works too, just more slowly. See our chargers and power banks.

The verdict

  • Redmi Note 17 Pro Max: the better phone for almost everyone — longer battery life, 4K video and faster everything for €26 more. Buy the Pro Max.
  • Redmi Note 17 Pro: the pick if storage matters more than video. Buy the Pro.

Both are genuine EU stock from an authorised Xiaomi reseller, shipped from our Irish warehouse. Order before 2pm for next-working-day delivery.
