Wearables

Watch, band or earbuds — which one suits you

Trackers, audio and the bits that go with them. This page helps you pick the right one; each section links to the full range.

Option one

Smart watches

Choose a watch if you want to leave the phone at home. A full-size display you can read and reply on, GPS built into the case, and a sensor set broad enough to replace a dedicated running watch. It is the heaviest and most expensive of the three, and it looks like a watch rather than a tracker.

  • Best for: running, cycling, replying on the wrist
  • Trade-off: bulkier and dearer than a band

Option two

Smart bands

Choose a band if you want the data without noticing the device. A few grams on the wrist, weeks between charges, and it stays on overnight for sleep tracking because you never need to take it off to charge it. The screen is narrow, and standard models borrow GPS from your phone.

  • Best for: all-day steps, heart rate and sleep
  • Trade-off: small screen, phone-dependent GPS

Option three

TWS earphones and headphones

Not an alternative to the other two — most people end up with a tracker and a set of buds. Sealed in-ear for commuting with noise cancellation, semi-in-ear if tips bother you, open-ear for running in traffic. Over-ear headphones sit at the top for battery life and cancellation.

  • Best for: commuting, calls, training audio
  • Trade-off: fit matters more than specification

Smart tags

Not worn, but the same idea: a coin-sized Bluetooth tracker for keys, bags and luggage that borrows every passing phone to tell you where your things are. Works with either Apple's or Google's finding network, and the battery is one you can replace yourself.

  • Best for: keys, checked luggage, laptop bags
  • Trade-off: no ultra-wideband precision finding

Smart glasses

Ordinary-looking frames with speakers and microphones built into the temples. No screen and no augmented reality — they replace your earbuds rather than your phone, and take a prescription lens, so they can be the glasses you wear all day.

  • Best for: all-day wear if you already wear glasses
  • Trade-off: no noise cancellation, some sound leaks

Watch or band, side by side

The two trackers overlap most, so this is where the decision usually sits.

Time between chargesBand: two to three weeks. Watch: several days to three weeks, less with the always-on display running.
ScreenBand: narrow, for glancing at. Watch: full-size, for reading a message and acting on it.
GPSBand: usually from your phone, so carry it. Watch: built in, so you do not have to.
On the wristBand: light enough to forget, including overnight. Watch: noticeable, and reads as jewellery.
PriceBand: the cheapest way into tracking. Watch: several times the price of a band.
Pick it ifBand: you want sleep and step data with no fuss. Watch: you train seriously or want notifications you can act on.

Common questions

Should I buy a smart watch or a fitness band?

Buy the band if what you want is step, sleep and heart rate data on a device you never think about. Buy the watch if you train with GPS, or if you want to read and answer notifications without reaching for your phone. If budget is the deciding factor, the band wins comfortably.

Do Xiaomi wearables work with an iPhone?

Yes — watches, bands and earbuds all pair with iOS through the Mi Fitness app. A small number of features, such as replying to messages from the wrist, are limited to Android by Apple's restrictions rather than by the device.

Do I need a Xiaomi phone?

No. Any reasonably recent Android phone or iPhone will do. The Mi Fitness app is free on both stores.

What is the difference between Xiaomi and REDMI wearables?

REDMI is the value line. It generally shares the sensor set and screen technology with the Xiaomi equivalent, in a lighter case with less premium materials, at a lower price. Xiaomi-branded models add metal cases, brighter displays and, on watches, more positioning bands.

Battery life, water resistance and feature availability vary by model, firmware version and use. Figures here describe the range in general — the specification on each product page takes precedence.
