Redmi Watch 6: a big-screen smartwatch with real GPS and a real battery
The Redmi Watch 6 is the step up from the Watch 6 Active, and the differences are the ones that matter for sport. It has built-in GNSS with dual L1 antennas across five satellite systems, so you can leave your phone at home on a run and still get an accurate route. It is rated 5ATM and suitable for pool swimming, with heart rate tracking in the water. And the 550 mAh battery is rated for up to 24 days of light use.
The display is a 2.07″ square AMOLED at 432 × 514 pixels, with 2 mm symmetrical bezels, an 82% screen-to-body ratio and up to 2000 nits of peak brightness. The case uses an aluminium alloy frame in a unibody design that is 1.4 mm slimmer than the Redmi Watch 5, and there are now two physical controls: a raised stainless steel crown and a secondary button that can call an emergency contact with a triple press.
Day to day it handles notifications, Bluetooth calls through its speaker and microphone, remote camera control and 512MB of local music storage for Android users. It works with Android 8.0 and iOS 14.0 or later, and tracks heart rate, blood oxygen, stress and sleep around the clock.

Aluminium frame, crown and a second button
The unibody case is 1.4 mm slimmer than the Redmi Watch 5, and its aluminium alloy mid-frame is 20% harder and 40% stronger in yield. A raised stainless steel crown handles scrolling, while a new secondary button adds shortcuts — including an emergency call to a saved contact.

Can I swim with the Redmi Watch 6?
Yes. It is rated 5ATM, certified by TÜV SÜD, and suitable for pool swimming and shallow open-water swimming, with heart rate tracking in the water. It is not suitable for hot showers, saunas, deep diving or high-speed water sports. Water resistance is not permanent and can deteriorate over time.
Does it have built-in GPS?
Yes. It has independent GNSS with dual L1 antennas, supporting GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS. You can track the route and distance of an outdoor run or ride without taking your phone.
Does it work with an iPhone?
Yes. It pairs with iPhones running iOS 14.0 or later and Android phones running Android 8.0 or later, through the Mi Fitness app. A couple of features are Android only, including playing music stored on the watch.
How long does the battery last?
Xiaomi's lab testing gives up to 24 days of light use, around 12 days of normal use with all-day health monitoring on, and about 7 days of heavy use with the Always-on Display enabled. Heavy GPS use will shorten these figures.
Can I take calls on the watch?
Yes. It has a built-in speaker and microphone for Bluetooth calling, so you can answer and make phone calls from your wrist while it is connected to your phone.
How does the emergency call work?
Triple-press the secondary button to call your emergency contact. You need to set it up first in the Mi Fitness app under Security > Emergency SOS, with the app updated to the latest version.
Does it come with a charger?
It comes with a magnetic charging cable. There is no wall plug in the box — plug the cable into any USB port or USB phone charger you already have.
Can I pay contactlessly with it?
No NFC is listed in the specification, so contactless payments are not supported on this model.
Should I buy the Watch 6 or the Watch 6 Active?
Take the Watch 6 if you run, cycle or swim: it adds built-in GPS, 5ATM swim rating, an aluminium frame, a bigger and brighter screen and longer battery life. Take the Watch 6 Active if you mainly want notifications, calls and health tracking in a lighter, cheaper watch.

No. The heart rate, blood oxygen, stress and sleep features are for general wellness and are not designed to diagnose, prevent or treat any condition. Talk to a doctor if you have concerns about your health.
