A 2K 120Hz tablet in 7.4 mm of metal
A 9.7″ screen, Snapdragon® 6s 4G Gen 2, a 7600 mAh battery, stereo speakers and microSD up to 2TB. This listing: 4GB + 64GB, Wi-Fi, Graphite Grey. Irish stock, Irish warranty.
Redmi Pad 2 9.7: a compact tablet with a sharp, fast screen
The Redmi Pad 2 9.7 is the smaller sibling of the Redmi Pad 2, built for streaming, reading, browsing and schoolwork. Its 9.7″ 2K display runs at 2048 × 1280 and up to 120Hz in supported apps, and it sits in an aluminium unibody 7.4 mm thin that weighs 406 g.
Inside is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® 6s 4G Gen 2, which Xiaomi says is 34% faster than the Redmi Pad SE 8.7. A 7600 mAh battery is rated for more than 15 hours of online video, and the 64GB of storage can be expanded with a microSD card up to 2TB. Stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack cover films and music.
Know four things before you buy. This is the Wi-Fi model, with no SIM slot for mobile data. It has 4GB of RAM, which suits everyday apps rather than heavy multitasking. There is no charger in the box. And Xiaomi doesn’t list stylus or keyboard support for this model.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 take a SIM card?
No. This is the Wi-Fi model, so it connects over Wi-Fi only. For mobile data, look at the Redmi Pad 2 4G or the Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G. You can also share your phone’s hotspot.
Does it come with a charger?
No. The EU box has the tablet, a USB Type-C cable, an SD card eject tool, a quick start guide and a warranty card. It supports 18W charging, so any USB-C phone charger works, and a faster one charges it quicker.
Can I add more storage?
Yes. It takes a microSD card up to 2TB, sold separately. Usable internal storage is less than 64GB because the operating system and preinstalled apps take up space.
Is 4GB of RAM enough?
For streaming, browsing, reading, video calls, school apps and casual games, yes. If you keep many apps open at once or play demanding games, a tablet with more memory, such as the Redmi Pad 2 Pro 5G, will feel quicker.
Is the screen always 120Hz?
The screen can run at up to 120Hz in apps and games that support it. Other apps run at a lower rate, which also saves battery.
Does it have a headphone jack?
Yes, a 3.5mm jack, plus Hi-Res Audio support. Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX and AAC works with wireless headphones too.
Does it work with a stylus or keyboard?
Xiaomi doesn’t list a stylus or keyboard for the Redmi Pad 2 9.7. A protective cover is sold separately. Standard Bluetooth keyboards should pair over Bluetooth 5.0.
Does it work with my Xiaomi phone?
Yes. With Xiaomi HyperOS 3 or later on both devices, the same Xiaomi account and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi switched on, you can answer phone calls on the tablet and copy text, images and files on one device and paste them on the other.
Should I buy the Redmi Pad 2 9.7 or the Redmi Pad 2?
Take the 9.7 for a lighter, more compact tablet with a 120Hz screen and a Snapdragon chip. Take the 11″ Redmi Pad 2 for a bigger 2.5K screen and a larger 9000 mAh battery.
